Check it out:unfinished sock leg shot

My first sock ever. It’s not quite done and I still need to make one more for a pair, but I really made a real sock. Why did I think it was going to be so hard? I was scared of the heel, that’s why. And the heel wasn’t scary at all once I figured out the numbers.

I was using the Crosswalkers sock pattern from ravelry, which is an easier version of Jaywalkers, I guess. But when I cast on the number of stitches suggested, it was way too big. (Seems to be a theme around here, hmmm?) So I cast on 64 instead of 80. That’s fine for the whole sock untill you get to the heel shaping. I knew there was math, but I didn’t know what equation, because I didn’t know what number I was trying to get to. So I found this heels by the number page and it spelled it all out for me. So I didn’t do the heel exactly like the pattern said, but I still got a heel, so I’m happy. These are still a touch too big for me, so someone I know (with slightly bigger feet) is going to get an awesome pair of hand-knitted socks for their birthhday.

Those are 2.25 mm bamboo sock needles. The smallest needles I’ve ever used. The ends are chipping! They get caught in the yarn and it’s driving me crazy. I’ll try filing them a bit, but I still have a whole other knee-high sock to knit! I think I need new ones and I know exactly which ones I want: rainbow needles!

So pretty!

Finished Mitered Hat

Vaughans sweater is done

January 29, 2009

Finished the morning before his birthday when it turned out I didn’t have to work that day. Again, a little too big. I made the 4-6 size and he just turned 5. So next winter he’ll wear it, I guess.
I still need buttons but he wants to pick them out. We’ll do that a little [...]

Mitered Hat

January 23, 2009

As I mentioned, the Elvish hat didn’t look quite right on me. But I really like the idea of using miters for shaping and I want a hat that covers my ears without having floppy flaps at the sides. So I tried out using two sets of increases and decreases instead of three. I really [...]
