The size of hat in the original pattern will fit a size medium/large head. If your head is on the smaller side, use size 3.5 or 3.75 mm dpns, following the pattern just the same. This is the hat knit with 3.5 mm needles:

Even cuter, right? I love it.

I would say that’s a size small.  I couldn’t find my 3.75  mm needles.
