Mitered Hat Pattern

Update: I made another one of these and it turned out even better!

I wanted a certain kind of hat and couldn’t find a pattern for it. So I decided to make my first ever hat pattern. I wanted a hat that would cover my ears, but not go too far down onto my forehead. And I wanted a round crown, not a point.

It was really a lot harder than I thought it would be. I knit and re-knit the crown of this hat so many times, I might as well have knit 5 hats.

I’m really, really proud of this accomplishment and have gotten lots of compliments on my hat. (Although, I may have shoved it in peoples faces and said “Look what I made! I made up the pattern in my brain!”) So please let me know if you knit it or like it in the comments, I would love that!

Excellent job! You SHOULD be shoving it into peoples faces, but unless they knit, they just can’t appreciate what an accomplishment this is!
But don’t let that stop you from being proud of yourself!
I look forward to knitting this, and I’ll send a pic when I do.
Thanks for sharing your work.

This hat is great! My daughter rides her bike everywhere and says her ears are always cold; this looks like she could wear it under a bike helmet! Yes send me the pdf when you get it done. Thanks

Hi there, really love this pattern and knit it at once. However i am stuck in Row 2 from ” ….”, should it be knit 9, slip marker, kfb?

Row 2: KFB, knit to two stitches before next marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, knit to one stitch before next marker, kfb, slip marker, “knit 10, slip marker, kfb”. Knit to two stitches before next marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, knit to one stitch before beg. of round, kfb.

It’s correct as written. The 10 stitches between the 2 stitch markers in the front of the hat don’t have any increases or decreases. You just kfb in the stitches immediately before and after those 2 stitch markers. I hope that helped! Please let me know if you have any more questions!
