As I mentioned, the Elvish hat didn’t look quite right on me. But I really like the idea of using miters for shaping and I want a hat that covers my ears without having floppy flaps at the sides. So I tried out using two sets of increases and decreases instead of three. I really liked the result. I just needed to figure out the rest of the decreases for the top of the hat so it’s not pointy like the other one. Or maybe just not as pointy as the original elvish hat.
I found this awesome calculator to figure where the decreases should be. Just put in your numbers and it comes up with a plan for you. Very useful for when you don’t feel like doing the math.
