I finally wrote out what I did and hopefully you can benefit from my experimentation. I haven’t had anyone test knit these, so if you do knit them, please let me know how it went and whether there were any problems.
Materials: worsted weight yarn (about a skein and a half for the small), 1 stitch marker, 3.75mm and 5mm dpns
For sizes small(medium,large)
Cast on 42 (48, 54) using the long tail cast on over two of the 3.75mm needles. Spread stitches evenly onto 3 needles, place marker and join, working K1, P1 rib for 2 inches.
Increase row: increase 6 stitches evenly on this round. One every 7 (8, 9) stitches. Switch to 5mm needles on the next row.
Work stockinette until piece measures 10 (10.5, 11) inches.
Increase 6 stitches evenly over next round, then work 11 rows even. (Do this twice, so it’s 24 rows total)
Next row: Purl
Next row: Knit
Next row: Purl
Next row: Cast off as loosely as you can in knit.
Weave in ends.
If you make these leg warmers, I’d love to hear about it. Please leave a comment!

Okay, so I have a question…okay probably more then just one!! I really want to knit these legwarmers, and I am looking at knitting on round, not dpns. And the yarn I have is bulky. Also, what do you mean by 11 rows even? Do you mean no increases?
Any suggestions or input? Thanks!
Bari
If you want to knit them on circular needles, they’ll have to be pretty short. Alternatively, you could knit them on straights and sew up the seam. If you’re using a totally different weight of yarn, you will probably need to change the needle size considerably to get gauge. 11 rows even means to knit 11 more rows with no increases.
Thank you so much. I think I am going to take your advice and knit on straights and sew up the seam. I can’t wait to make them. When I complete them I will let you know how they turned out. Thanks so much for posting the pattern and your assistance
These are cute! What about knitting them in the round using Magic Loop? Seems like it would work just fine…
Thanks for sharing this pattern!

Hello:
I would like to make your pattern. I have one question in particular. Do you have the measurement in length from top to bottom. The reason I am asking this is that I’m making these for my daughter and she wants to be able to scrunch them. Because of this, I’m making them longer than usual and need to know how many rows to add on.
Thank you,
Mary
I’ve actually given away all the ones I made already, so I don’t have them to measure. I think once you start on the increase rounds, it’s 4 inches from there to the cast off. So the large size would be about 15-16 inches. Do as many rows as you think you need before you start on the increases, keeping in mind there’s another 4 inches or so to go. You might need to put in elastic at the top of the legwarmers, because the extra length and yarn will make them a bit heavier.
Hope that helped!
Desiree
what type of increase is it? is it a simple increase or is it hard?
plus how much yarn for the larger sizes?
Pretty simple, I just knit into the front and back of that stitch. I really don’t know how much yarn it is for the larger sizes. I used less than 1 skein for each of the ones I knit.
Thanks! That is alot of help!! Much apreciated!!!!
Usually, I think leg warmers as kind of eighties looking and everything, but these are really cute! I might try these.
Okay, so I want to make these, but I wanted to know what yarn and what color that is in the picture! I love it!
All the yarn in those pictures is 1 lb bulk bag yarn from walmart. Fancy shmancy, I know. I guess just try to get gauge with any worsted weight yarn you can find?
i would like to make these and have a question regarding the directions. when you say “Increase 6 stitches evenly over next round, then work 11 rows even. (Do this twice, so it’s 24 rows total)” do you mean to increase 6 stitches again after ll rows? i am new to knitting and am not sure what you mean- thanks
Hi there, I’m new to knitting and don’t want to sound like an idiot, but do you know of any way to knit these on a loom? I just got the knifty knitters looms for early Christmas, and really want to make the legwarmers ^^ The thing is, I can’t seem to understand any of you knitter’s lingo, so….. yeah. Any tips? lol
Also, is there any way to keep them from rolling up at the bottom, while still keeping them flared? Sorry for the questions, but they are too cool to -not- make!
I’m sorry, I have no idea how to use a loom, so I wouldn’t be much help there. If you’re having problems with rolling at the bottom, maybe add a row or two to the garter stitch border. That should help.
First off, these are totally cute!! The best leg warmer pattern I found after searching for a long time!! They wll be great for my best friend. now, I have a question… when you say “Work stockinette until piece measures 10 (10.5, 11) inches.” do you mean from the very top of the warmer or from the start where you increased ?? Hope that makes sense. I am in the process of making them right now, hopefully you will see this very soon!! Thanks!
The measurement is from the very top of the legwarmer.
I can’t wait to make these! I was in Chicago and bought some beautiful Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted to make myself some legwarmers. And these are perfect! I just have one question: what is your gauge? I have looked and looked and don’t see it. I hope that I am not missing it… Thank you!
You’re right, I did forget to put my gauge here. Thank you for letting me know! Fortunately, I did write it down on Ravelry.
4 stitches and 5.5 rows= 1 inch in stockingette.
To knit with circular needles; use two. Knit half the stitches on each one. Knit from one end of the needle to the other end. Let the other needle, with the other half stitches, hang down in back. Then pull out the needle, turn the project around and knit the other half of the row. There is also a new way to use one long needle and calls for pulling the center of the loop of the needle out from between stitches. I don’t care for it.
Great idea! I don’t care for the magic loop method, either, but I’ve heard it depends a lot on which needles you’re using.
