I saw these gorgeous crocheted sweaters on etsy. They look raw and organic in design and that struck a chord with me.

So I’m doing something I don’t think I’ve ever done before. I just grabbed some yarn and started chaining. No pattern, just a general idea of how I want it to look. I have always used a pattern before. I might change a pattern to suit me, but I always start with a pattern.

I worked on it for about three days and this is the result:

That is acrylic yarn from a scarf I bought years ago. I reclaimed it because it’s so super soft. I started running out of yarn when I started the sleeves, so I unravelled the rest of the ball, attached the other yarn end to the other sleeve and did one row at a time on both sleeves. So both sleeves are the same length and I used up every scrap of yarn. This is all the yarn that’s left over:

And I’m using that bit to sew on the buttons. Thrifty!

Also completed on that 2007 car trip to Minneapolis. It’s the same pattern as the rick rack scarf but made with a 5mm hook and Red Heart Soft in teal and grey.
My favorite spring/fall jacket is light blue and this scarf goes perfectly with it.

But I can knit and crochet all I like.

Sorry, I’ll try to have makeup on next time I take a picture. Oh ha ha, and clear lunch off the table. too.

I love rick rack . Even green rick rack. It just looks so retro. The yarn is some mystery yarn from walmart in one of those bulk yarn bags. Acrylic, for sure, but still soft.

It took some figuring out to get the wave just right. I’ll try to remember exactly what I did so I can make another someday.
