Mitered Hat pattern progress

Writing my pattern for the Flared Legwarmers was a lot easier than this. I have frogged and re-done the top half of this hat so many times, I could have knit three or five of these hats by now! If I had the pattern down right, that is.

I’m almost there, I can feel it. The part I had the most trouble with is having the crown nice and flat and not bumpy. I think I have that fixed now . The blue hat turned out just a touch too big, so I had to do some math to fix it.

Remember my mitered hat ? I am in the process of writing out a pattern for it.

I have frogged and redone this hat so many times in my quest for the perfect hat, that I thought I’d write down what finally worked so no one else has to frog a hat eleventy times.

Some girls I met at Stitch and Bitch volunteered to test-knit it for me, so hopefully I can put it up here soon!

Pattern for Flared Legwarmers

Lovely blue flared legwarmers

I finally wrote out what I did and hopefully you can benefit from my experimentation. I haven’t had anyone test knit these, so if you do knit them, please let me know how it went and whether there were any problems.

Flared Legwarmers Pattern

Materials: worsted weight yarn (about a skein and a half for the small), 1 stitch marker, 3.75mm and 5mm dpns

For sizes small(medium,large)

Cast on 42 (48, 54) using the long tail cast on over two of the 3.75mm needles. Spread stitches evenly onto 3 needles, place marker and join, working K1, P1 rib for 2 inches.

Increase row: increase 6 stitches evenly on this round. One every 7 (8, 9) stitches. Switch to 5mm needles on the next row.

Work stockinette until piece measures 10 (10.5, 11) inches.

Increase 6 stitches evenly over next round, then work 11 rows even. (Do this twice, so it’s 24 rows total)

Next row: Purl

Next row: Knit

Next row: Purl

Next row: Cast off as loosely as you can in knit.

Weave in ends.

Flared legwarmers

I really like to wear skirts, but I really hate being cold. I tried another pattern for these from the bernat website because they were the only ones I could find that were flared at the bottom. I finished one whole legwarmer, even though I could tell they were going to be too big. So once I tried it on, I could see exactly where it needed changing. Then I frogged the whole thing and started over with my modifications.

So these are a shorter, tighter, less flared version of those, I guess.

I wrote out the pattern in case anyone was interested.
